SPECIAL EVENT :A DOG’S DAY OUT Gymea Jazz & Blues Markets
In conjunction with the exhibition Who Let the Dogs Out and the Gymea Jazz & Blues Markets, a range of special canine events will be held in the gallery grounds on Sunday 25 May from 9am–3pm. Come along for a fabulous FREE day of fun for all the family (human and canine) with dog themed films, competitions, demonstrations by the Police Dog Squad and information on animal welfare and behaviour. There’ll also be live music by Dog Trumpet and the George Washing Machine Quartet, art & craft markets and free dog washing and poop pouches! For further information please call Debbie on 9710 0999.

Hanrob: Pets in the Community
Andrew Biggs, Managing Director of Hanrob and Brett Bell, Education Manager together with Leo the education dog, will do a presentation relating to the Council Awareness program. This includes practical dog obedience, animal behaviour, council companion animal policies and how to interact safely around dogs.

Andrew Biggs, Managing Director of Hanrob and Mark Wilczynski, Specialised Dog Training Manager together with an Australian Quarantine Inspection Services beagle, will do a demonstration on quarantine training and answer questions.

An exhibition for lovers of dogs and art alike — artists from around the country
revel in the joy of dogginess and ponder the lasting connection between man
and his best friend.


In conjunction with the exhibition the gallery is holding a number of additional events. All events are free to attend and open to the public.

  • Opening Function
    2pm Merryn Gates, curator of Who let the dogs out, in conversation with artists
    Michael Bell, Stephen Barrass.
    3pm Official opening by Pam Withers, co-ordinator of the Hunter Newcastle Branch of Delta Society Australia who will introduce working Pet Partner Teams, followed by refreshments. Gold coin donation for Delta appreciated
  • Website Launch of www.wholetthedogsout.com.au
    featuring comprehensive information about the exhibition, the website will link with other dog-related sites and be a fantastic resource for both dog and art lovers.

Saturday 1 March 10am – 2pm

  • Canine Carnival
    Bring your dog and join in the fun with loads of information and activities. Fun for all the family, free show bags and poop pouches
    There will be competitions for Best Dressed Dog, Owner/ Dog Look a Like, Doggie Musical Mats and more...
    Plus advice on animal welfare and behaviour
